About My Coaching

I rely heavily on experiential processes during a coaching session. This means that we may do far more than just talk about your goal or challenge in life.

  • I may rely on the present moment and invite you to connect with your deeper feelings, emotions, and sensations.

  • We may get up and move around the room.

  • I may invite you to “act out” what is occurring within your mind or inner world.

  • I may use a variety of coaching protocols and interviewing strategies.

  • I may have you step into your imagination so that you can access cut off aspects of your true self.

Coaching always involves questions. Lots of questions. But I am not the one who has the answers. You are! This is why I will help to facilitate your inner journey and exploration. With God’s help, you will find your own answers.

Coaching Can Take on Many Formats

We can meet weekly or bimonthly face to face or over a video platform like Zoom or SKYPE. Typically a coaching session is 1- 2 hours long unless you are interested in an intensive coaching experience which is described below.  I charge $145 for each hour session and take cash, checks or credit cards.

Intensive Coaching Experiences

For those who have a history of doing personal growth work and are comfortable with engaging possible hidden parts of themselves (parts that are in shadow or cut off from their conscious awareness), you may want to consider an intensive coaching experience. These typically involve 3-4 hours per day of coaching across 3-4 consecutive days. Intensive Coaching might be recommended, for example:

  • if you feel ready to take a deep (and “intense”) dive into your own life while being supported to cultivate self-awareness, reflection, acceptance, and healthy integration of the aspect of self that has been blocking you from forward movement, or

  • if you are facing a major life change or transition that requires deep groundedness, sensitivity, and acute self-awareness to successfully navigate.

There are many other circumstances or felt need that could support an intensive coaching experience. For more information on Intensives or to see if you might be a good fit, please contact Janelle directly. Click here

What is the difference between Coaching and Counseling?

I am a certified 4 Gateways Coach and am experienced in working with men and women using a variety of experiential, psychodrama, and somatic based transformational processes. I am also a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Colorado with training and experience treating people with emotional challenges.  While there are similarities between Coaching and Psychotherapy, they are very different activities and it is important that you understand the differences between them.  Both Coaching and Psychotherapy utilize knowledge of human behavior and motivation, behavioral change, and use the relationship between the coach/client or therapist/patient to encourage and influence change.  The major differences lie in the goals, focus, and level of professional responsibility.

The focus of Coaching is the development and implementation of strategies to reach goals set by the client. Coaching may address specific personal projects, life balance, job performance or satisfaction, spiritual growth, or general conditions in a client’s life, relationships or profession.  Coaching utilizes strategic planning, values clarification, brainstorming, motivational counseling and other techniques.  The client’s thoughts, behaviors, emotions and physical symptoms are examined and explored as relevant sources of information related to Coaching goals.

In contrast, the primary focus of Psychotherapy is the identification, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health “disorders”.  The goals of Psychotherapy include alleviating symptoms, understanding and resolving the dynamics which create distress, modifying dysfunctional behaviors, and developing new strategies for coping with mental and emotional challenges.

Because of these differences, the roles of coach and psychotherapist can often be in conflict.  Under most circumstances, it is ethically inappropriate for one person to play both roles with a client, whether concurrently or sequentially.  This means that if either of us recognizes that you have a struggle or challenge that would benefit more from psychotherapeutic intervention, I will refer you to appropriate resources.
